Cashing in on the 2026 Season in March
March 27, 2026
March is when our athletes get to cash in on all the training they have done since May 2025. They travel to much anticipated championship competitions and celebrate the end of the season with team traditions.
Seventeen athletes represented PCSS at the Intermountain Youth Championships on February 28 and March 1 in Sun Valley, Idaho. There were lots of hills, smiles, cheering, camaraderie, glitter, food and podiums. Mira Smeyak won both skate and classic race to take home the overall U14 Cup. Donovan Toly also won both U14 races and placed 2nd in the U14 Cup.
Pike Karz placed 2nd and Michaela Provan placed 4th in the Skier Cross. Other top finishes included Addison Wubbels finishing 8th in both the skate and classic U12 races. The final race of the season was the U8 Classic race where the whole team cheered on Cedar Wubbels who came from behind to win. Everyone came away from the weekend with lasting memories and inspiration.
Led by Head Comp Coach Liz Stephen Eight Park City Ski and Snowboard cross country athletes competed at the 2026 Junior National Championships in Cable, Wisconsin on March 9-14. They skied in four races as part of the Intermountain Division Team. Our athletes showed up and raced their best in a full range of conditions.
The squad came away with some impressive performance that helped the Intermountain Team place 2nd in the team division. Park City Ski and Snowboard finished the weekend 9th in the team standings.
Standout performances included U20 athlete Tory Hoffman finished on the podium in every competition and won the mass start classic race.
Rhys Weidenhamer qualified for the U18 classic sprint heats and made it to the B finals and finished 12th overall. Rhys’ best performance also came in the mass start classic race where she placed 3rd.
Ian Carmack had an impressive 5th place finish in the U18 7.5k individual start skate race to start off the week. He also qualified for the classic sprint heats finishing 17th.
Tegan Hoffman had some impressive performances placing 20th in the U18 skate race and qualified for the classic sprint heats and placed 21st.
Also representing PCSS were Emmett Covington, who placed 33rd in the skate race at his first Junior Nationals, Brooke Greenberg who placed 29th in the classic mass start, Phoebe Zaniello placing 58th in the skate race, and Hannah Strahan who placed 69th in the skate race.
23 athletes traveled to Victor, Idaho for the Western Nordic Club Championships for a weekend of racing. The first race was a skate individual start 1.6k where Addison Wubbels and Flynn Thomas placed 1st and 2nd and teammates Kaspar Rametta and Cedar Wubbels finished 8th and 12th in the U12/U10 category.
In the U14 4k skate race Mira continued her winning streak by winning by 76 seconds. Alison Yarbrough placed 12th, Vieve Kurek 14th and Serafina Meyers 17th. We had a strong showing in the U14 boys 4k race with Myles Teela and Myles Taylor placing 3rd and 4th, Oskar Rametta placing 10th, Timur Borjigin 11th, Ryder Thomas 14th, Leo Dailey 15, Nico Kaufman Angell 16th, Eli Kurek 17th, and Luke Peterson 18th. In the U16 girls 8k race Taylor Peterson finished 10th while Dylan Taylor won the U18 8k race.
Donning glitter and tutus, athletes paired up for relays in the afternoon. Flynn and Addison won the U12 race and Mira and Dylan won the U18 race. U14 boys had 5 teams racing finishing 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th and 9th.
The next day was a classic pursuit race, this meant you started the race based on where you finished in the skate distance race the day before. Addison and Flynn had a battle and finished 2nd and 4th, Mira continued her lead and finished 3 minutes ahead of 2nd place. Alison finished 12, Vieve 14th and Serafina 16th. Scout Black who only raced Sunday finished 17th in the classic race.
In the U14 boys race Myles Teela had the fastest classic time and finished 2nd. Miles Taylor placed 4th, Oskar Rametta 10th, Ryder 11th, Leo 12th, Nico 13th, Eli 14th, and Luke 15th. Torin and Pearson who only raced the classic race placed 14th and 18th respectively.
Dylan continued her lead winning by close to 3 minutes in the U18 girls race and Taylor finished 6th. Ada Lewis only raced the classic race and finished 10th.
Back in Park City we were able to host the 2nd Cocoa Loppet of the season on March 10th at Utah Olympic Park. This time Kickers and Gliders saw how many laps they could skate ski in 20 minutes. Conditions were very soft but our skiers showed a lot of grit and 40 kids completed the race.
A big thank you to everyone who came out for the all Nordic team photo on March 3, it was great to have so many of our athletes and supporters in one place. Per tradition, we also had a day where our cross country devo skier had an opportunity to try ski jumping on March 12.
Our Masters, Junior Comp, and Devo programs wrapped up on March 18th and 19th by taking trips to Bonanza Flat to enjoy crust skiing and the spectacular views.
A big congrats to these athletes on wrapping up a successful 2026 season and the coaches who continued to plan and show up even when the snow did not. We will celebrate our season with a team banquet on April 2nd at Utah Olympic Park. Our summer programs will start in May and details can be found at www.parkcityss.org.
