Championship Success
March 25, 2026
Whether Phil saw his shadow or not, March kicked off with a bang and even a fresh coating of snow at the Utah Olympic Park. PCSS hosted the 2026 Western Regional Championships at the Park as well as Soldier Hollow the first weekend in March.
After battling warm temps leading in, the UOP crew and ski jumping staff re-snowed the inruns of the hills HS68 and down. On competition day, we were blessed with a beautiful cool but sunny morning and perfect conditions for jumping. Athletes from Steamboat Springs and Park City as well as Wisconsin and Illinois competed in the Western championships. Following the morning events on our HS15, 20, 42 and 68, the show moved to Soldier Hollow for a new format for many of the athletes: a mixed sprint relay. Teams of two (primarily one male / one female) raced multiple legs of slushy skiing. The warm snow made for a challenge, but it was clear the athletes were pushing each other to new limits in the team format.
Park City athletes walked away from this event with a sense of accomplishment and finality to a wild season as well as a number of podium finishes. Following Westerns, our top U16 and U14 athletes set their sites on Junior National Championships in Steamboat Springs.
Six PCSS athletes competed for team IMD at the 2026 Junior Championships. Steamboat suffered from the same weather as us, and made the call to jump from the summer track to snow - a move that was both necessary and positive in order to ensure a fair event. Our athletes competed over three days and walked away proud from each. In the individual and team events, Liam Demong led the charge, walking away with an impressive gold in three of the four competitions: U16 Ski Jumping, Nordic Combined and Nordic Combined Team Relay (with Donovan Toly).
