Fundamentals
Ski Jumping Summer • 7-14 years

Program Details

Fundamentals (Small Hills) introduces young athletes to ski jumping in a fun, supportive environment focused on foundational skills and all-around athletic development. Summer training takes place on the 10–20m hills and combines jumping with age-appropriate dryland that builds agility, balance, coordination, and general strength. Athletes progress at their own pace while learning safe technique, equipment management, and the basics of flight.

Fall training adds one dryland session per week plus one or two weekly jumping options, providing family-friendly flexibility. Coaching emphasizes motor-skill development, confidence, and a positive introduction to the sport. This program offers the perfect starting point for athletes preparing to advance into the Competitive Team pathway.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What skills are required to participate?

Athletes should be intermediate skiers who can manage their equipment independently. Confident parallel turning and safe stopping are important. No prior ski jumping experience is needed.
  • What should athletes bring?

Please bring water, athletic shoes, sunscreen, snacks, and weather-appropriate clothing. For fall dryland days, athletes should dress for active games, agility work, and conditioning.
  • What equipment do athletes need?

Fundamentals athletes need properly sized ski jumping equipment to train safely. Because this gear is highly specialized, most families choose to rent club equipment through PCSS. Rental includes skis, boots, a suit, and a helmet for the full training season, along with all fitting, maintenance, and storage.

    Equipment Rental Options:
    • Summer: $145
    • Fall: $130

Athletes may start in their own alpine equipment—especially younger or newer jumpers—and coaches will let families know when it’s time to transition into ski jumping gear. No additional purchases are required.
  • Is a USA Nordic membership required?

Not required, but highly encouraged. A $25 paid membership allows participation in events like the US Cup, Junior Series, and Virtual Nationals. Free memberships are also available. Join Today!
