Nearly every downhill skiing discipline builds on the fundamental skills of stance and balance and edging and rotary movements. PCSS’ Skillz & Drillz program is an alpine-focused offering, targeting the above techniques while building confidence in a fun and inclusive environment. Weeknight programming is held one or two nights a week at the Utah Olympic Park and focuses on constrained training environments to build skills and challenge the athlete.
An additional day can be added on Sundays at Deer Valley Resort. The Sunday program will focus on lessons learned from the week in an open free skiing environment. This program will focus on the fundamentals of alpine skiing and give athletes the necessary “skiing mileage” to prepare them for more advanced programs such as the alpine devo team. While this is a non-competitive program emphasizing skill-building and fun, there is an option to try out alpine competition through the YSL or Youth Ski League races (A US Ski & Snowboard U10 Competitors License is required to compete). Ultimately, these races are an excellent way for athletes to put it all together in a fun and energetic atmosphere amongst their peers.
These skills are NOT taught from scratch, and participants must be able to make parallel turns on blue runs.
Participants will be required to purchase a UOP seasons pass, which is purchased during registration.
The Deer Valley Sunday Add-on will include a Sunday Training Day Access pass. Note that Sunday, January 14, and Sunday, February 18 are blacked out at Deer Valley. Training on these two Sundays will take place at UOP. Also, note that the Deer Valley Sunday Training Day Access Pass is not a season pass.
