Freeski Park & Pipe Competition Team Head Coach

Reports to: PCSS Associate Director Freeski/ PNP Head Coach
Employment Status: Full-time salaried employee, overtime exempt 

Position Summary:

The Park City Ski & Snowboard (PCSS) Park and Pipe (PNP) Comp Team Head Coach is the face of the Park City PNP community and is responsible for building lasting relationships with athletes in a fun-driven and competitive environment, building on the PCSS PNP culture, to build a lasting love of sport and encourage physical literacy for life. The Comp Team Head Coach is responsible for developing and managing all aspects of the PCSS PNP Comp Team program. The role includes creating and implementing a long term strategic plan and vision for the program, managing the Park and Pipe division budget, overseeing all Comp Team coaching staff, and working with the Skills Team Head Coach to strengthen the program pipeline.

Key Working Relationships:

The Head Coach of the Comp Team is expected to work directly with their Team Coaches to build relationships with their athletes and families. You will also be expected to work directly with the Skills Team Head Coach, and the Associate Freeski Director/PNP Head Coach

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop relationships and be the main point of contact for the Comp Team athletes, families, and coaches. 
  • Commitment to retaining current athletes while growing participation in the PNP program
  • Creating and implementing both group and individual athlete development plans.
  • Recruiting, retaining, and developing the highest caliber coaching staff and creating coach education material.
  • Provide on-hill technical training/coaching for Comp Team coaches/athletes.
  • Work with Associate Director to manage the Park and Pipe division budget, and payroll, ensuring all PCSS accounting protocols and financial controls are followed by PNP coaches. 
  • Understand, abide by, and enforce the PCSS, USSS, and USASA Codes of Conduct. 
  • Manage all internal and external communications involving the Comp Team. Ensuring communications to membership are clear, promptly, regularly, and consistently delivered across the division. 
  • Understanding the equipment needs and overseeing inventory, maintenance, and repair of Park and Pipe Equipment
  • Maintain positions in USSS and/or USASA and provide input for the Park and Pipe calendar. The position will also regularly interface with NGB counterparts to ensure best practices for Park and Pipe athlete development are being met.
  • Work with the Associate Director and Skills team Head Coach to manage athlete and coach bonding activities, team Social Media, team apparel, etc.
  • Commitment to supporting the PCSS goal of increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • within the Park and Pipe program
  • Equal commitment and passion to athletic excellence and character development of young athletes of all ages
  • Commitment to “one club” philosophy and demonstrating a high level of respect for all PCSS divisions and disciplines
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:
  • Ability to lead and inspire athletes and coaches
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate, delegate, manage own work, make decisions, and solve problems effectively and creatively
  • Level 200 USSS Coach Certification or equivalent
  • First Aid/CPR Certification or ability to acquire within 3 months 
  • Strong budgeting skills and willingness to work within budget
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written
  • A goal-oriented, thorough, and detailed approach to work
  • Ability to represent PCSS Park and Pipe in the Park City community and nationally
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of USSS, FIS, and USASA
  • Experience managing and leading high-level teams and programs. Significant background in Park and Pipe preferred.
  • Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft 365 Suite, and other commonly used computer-based tools and resources
Physical Requirements:
  • On snow up to 8 hours per day on expert terrain
  • Can require course preparation, and working in extreme winter conditions
  • Can require up to 7-days per week schedule during competition season

FREESKI Park and Pipe TEAM Head Coach

Freeski Big Mountain Team Coach

Freeski Division Big Mountain Team Coach is a role that reports to the Big Mountain Head Coaches, as well as the Freeski Division Directors. Assist in the responsibilities of improving overall program success measures including, but not limited to, athlete safety, skill performance, member retention and acquisition, annual member satisfaction and financial growth. 

Employee shall, in good faith, devote his/her best efforts to his/her employment and perform diligently and in good faith such duties as are or may be from time to time required by the organization, whose duties shall be consistent with the position as set forth above.

Position Requirements:
  • Term of employment Mid November, 2022 through April 1, 2023. 
  • Acquire and Maintain CPR/ First Aid, Heads Up Concussion
  • Able to use apps and programs in Paycom, Google Drive, and team schedule.   
  • Be empowered. Take on tasks/responsibilities
  • Be a positive mentor to athletes on and off the hill
  • Compliance with SafeSport
  • Understand and agrees with the Vision and Mission statement of PCSS
  • Background screening
  • Knowledge in Google Drive, Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to lead a group
  • Ability to assist and support the Head Coaches and Division Directors
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude
  • Must be able to follow the weekly curriculum
  • Expert skier who loves to ski
Athletic responsibilities:
  • If an athlete on your training Group List does not show up, call and/or text to link up.
  • If an athlete is not cleared to leave on the Athlete Log, I will stay until a parent/guardian is able to pick them up (at all venues).
  • Be in contact with Big Mtn head coaches, working together, to help athletes be prepared for the next level.  
  • Provides ski demonstrations during sessions when applicable
  • Provides feedback to athletes
  • Communication of athletic program to athletes and parents
  • Assist in goal setting sessions 
Other Responsibilities:
  • Support and implement PCSS policies and procedures
  • Knowledgeable in Paycom, Clocking in/out, requesting time off, etc.      
  • Able to upload video onto a hard drive at the end of shifts.
  • Other tasks as assigned

Snowboard Seasonal Hourly Coach

Nov. 12 2022-April 30, 2023

This position reports to the Snowboard Director, Associate Director of Snowboard Development, and Head Coach; the applicant  works in a multitude of tasks to ensure the success of the Park City Ski and Snowboard program. This is a time commitment of 1-5 days per week on-snow as well as basic administrative responsibilities. Group management and skill progressions for the group make up a bulk of the on-snow time. This position is overtime exempt.

Position Requirements
  • Understand and agrees with the Vision and Mission statement of PCSS
  • Compliance with Safe Sport, Background, and Physical screening
  • USSA Level 1 coach or the equivalent 
  • Attend all assigned training sessions on time and with a plan
  • Comply with Uniform guidelines
  • Leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to assist and support Snowboard Director, Associate Director, and Head Coach 
  • Positive and Enthusiastic attitude
  • Expert snowboarder who loves to snowboard
Athletic responsibilities
  • Assist the Snowboard Head Coach on hill within scope of basic duties
  • Lead riders on-hill day-to-day
  • Participate in staff training
  • Manage a group of riders with focused goals in a safe environment 
  • Goal Setting and Goal review with athletes
  • Provides snowboard demonstrations as needed and within safe ability during sessions
  • Provides feedback to athletes
  • Communication of individual athletic program to athletes and parents
  • Video and Video review with athletes
Other Responsibilities
  • Support and implement PCSS policies and procedures
  • Attend all staff meetings at the request of PCSS ED/PD
  • Support fundraising events
  • Support host events
  • Continue education in all domains of discipline specific focus (Freestyle/SBX/Alpine)
  • Potential new staff identification and recruiting
  • Athlete recruiting and retention
